The Secret Place

"He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt though trust:  his truth shall be thy shield and buckler."  Psalm 91:4

Key Verse:  1 Peter 3:12

I.  The Secret Place
     A.  Dwelling in the Secret Place.
          Psalm 91:1

One of the great joys of being a Christian is to feel the assurance of being able to live in a secret place that is safely hidden in the protective presence of the Lord.  We are both able to hide from the onslaught of the enemy momentarily and also to dwell in that hiding place for a lifetime.

     B.  God is Our Place of Refuge.
          Joshua 20:2-6

Long ago God established a place of refuge to safeguard the innocent and righteous and now provides Himself as the greatest source of safety.

     C.  A Place of Trust.
          Isaiah 12:2

Our trust in God is well-placed.  He oversees us and we need never worry or fear about what happens to us.  He is trustworthy!

     D.  A Place of Truth.
          Deuteronomy 7:9-10
          John 1:17-18
          John 18:37
          John 14:6
          John 1:11-13

God uses men who are weak and feeble enough to lean on Him.  That is the secret of discovering God's place of refuge, trust, and truth.

II.  The Protection of the Secret Place.
      A.  God is Our Protector.
           Ephesians 6:17

The word "take" in this verse of scripture means "to accept."  And it speaks of our receiving from God's hand something that He has prepared for us.  God has ordained that we be protected by the salvation that He alone can provide.

     B.  Things From Which God Protects Us.
          Romans 8:36-39

Nothing - absolutely nothing - can separate God's people from His loving oversight and care.

     C.  Angels Have Charge to Protect Us.
          Psalm 91:11
          Acts 12:7

God sends angelic guards to oversee our safekeeping more often than we are even aware.

III.  The Blessings of the Secret Place.

     A.  God Gives Us His Love.
           John 15:12-15

God gave Himself a ransom for all on the cross.  Mankind witnessed God's greatest expression of love.

     B.  The Knowledge of God's Name.
          Proverbs 18:10

         C.  Deliverance, Honor, and Long Life.
          Psalm 91:14-16
          Psalm 25:20
          Philippians 4:13
          Romans 5:5
          2 Corinthians 12:9
          Philippians 4:7

We have considered the wonderful aspects of being under the protection of Jesus.  He has given us a place to run for protection.  We need not fear because He is always near. In Him we find safety, not only from storms of life, but eternally.  He has given us His name and with it the source of power and salvation.  We are a blessed people.
